So part of being a mommy is taking care of yourself…. Yes, we need to take care of ourselves first before we take care of others, my motto is “healthy mommy, healthy family”. Today was turn for my dreaded PAP test, it’s a simple test that takes less than 10 minutes but can save your life. A Pap test is a simple screening test that can detect cell changes in the cervix that may lead to cancer before women feel any symptoms.
The Ontario Cervical Screening Program recommends that women who are or have been sexually active have a Pap test every 3 years starting at age 21. Regular screening should continue until at least age 70 or when advised by a doctor or nurse practitioner to stop. Pap tests can stop at the age of 70 if a woman has had 3 or more normal tests in the previous 10 years.
Women ages 21 to 69 still need to be screened for cervical cancer if they:
- feel healthy and have no symptoms
- are no longer sexually active
- have only had 1 sexual partner
- are in a same-sex relationship
- have been through menopause
- have no family history of cervical cancer
Women who have had a hysterectomy should talk to their doctor or nurse practitioner to see if they need to be screened. https://www.cancercareontario.ca/en/types-of-cancer/cervical/screening
Is there a cost? There is absolutely no cost as it’s covered by OHIP. The Cancer Care Ontario runs a FREE program the”Ontario Cervical Screening Program”. Every women in Ontario who qualifies for a PAP test will receive a reminder letter that it’s time for your screening test.

And remember this simple test can save your life….. Healthy mommy, healthy family ❤

Tomorrow we celebrate our Veterans, those who fought for us, fought for our freedom and, fought for our Country. Every year on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we pause for a minute and remember all those who have sacrificed their life for Canada. Many of us will join a Remembrance Day event and many of us wear wear a poppy, but how should you wear your poppy? Well according to the Canadian Legion website ” The Poppy should be worn with respect on the left side, over the heart. The Legion’s lapel Poppy is a sacred symbol of Remembrance and should not be affixed with any pin that obstructs the Poppy ” http://www.legion.ca/remembrance/the-poppy/how-to-wear-a-poppy
For more poppy information please visit the Legion’s website.
In Flanders Field by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
